Photography, July 26

July 27, 2011

Over the past six weeks the photography co-op has explored the basics of the craft. From composition, involving cyanotypes (sun prints), at the very beginning in which we also collaborated as a group and initiated the bonding that has taken place over the summer. Then we built our pin hole cameras took our first negatives within the first whole week. Within that same week we learned how to develop our negatives and then make positive contact prints out of them. The second week we were given our Holga cameras and we unleashed our wrath unto the world. Over the next week or so we prepared for our open house and experimented with our abilities. After our open house we set upon developing our portfolios around our own chosen theme.

These past few weeks have been a huge rush to get enough work done for our portfolio. They have also been interspersed with a Heights Arts project called Fencepiration, where recyclable objects (bottles, cans, plastic bags) were transformed into beautiful flowers in order to beautify a fence on Cedar Road.

It has been a bonding experience. It has been a fun experience. And on behalf of the photography co-op I would like to thank Young Audiences Of North East Ohio, Lauren Smith, and most of all our wonderful MTA Lori Kella.

Architecture, July 25

July 26, 2011

The architecture co-op is working on finishing up our final models for the Campus International School design Competition, as this will be the main thing we plan to display at our Final Exhibition on Wednesday.

Last week, our substitute MTA, Jeremy, showed us around where he worked, and we got to see how a large downtown architecture firm looks and operates.

We were visited by Robert Maschke, a prominent architect in the Cleveland Area. He gave us feedback and suggestions for our schools, which was really cool helpful from someone who is actually very successful in the business we are all interested in.

We visited Kent State’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative to get a sense of some aspects of architecture school, and to be inspired by projects they are currently working on to design greener buildings and living spaces.

Although we are all sad that this experience is nearly over, we all look forward to showing off what we have been working on for the past 6 weeks at the Final Exhibition on Wednesday, July 27 from 6:30-8pm.
